Head of School Message
The power of teachers
We recently held our annual Reunion Weekend during the school year rather than in June when students have vacated for the summer. The advantage of this timing is that the alumni get to see the school in action. It serves to remind them of their time on campus, whether they are alumni from the 1940s or the 2000s. The most common response I heard from alumni was along these lines. "Seeing all the kids scurrying about brought back memories of me running at full tilt up the Hill to make sure I wasn't late to Mr. Lincoln's class." After this the comments would then focus on Mr. Lincoln, or Mr. Morrow, or Mr. Watts. No one spent any time talking about the classroom itself, or the chairs and desks. Nor did anyone mention any other facility in any detail. But everyone had a story about a teacher or two. More.

Tell a friend about WMA We have found that many of our applicants and new students have a connection to a current student at our school, and we strongly believe that existing WMA families are among our most valuable referral resources. It is in everyday parent-to-parent or student-to-student conversation that interest in WMA is generated. If your child is happy and thriving here, we appreciate your sharing that with your friends and neighbors. Feel free to invite them to a school game, event, or activity so they can see us in action. As the final trimester of the 2011-2012 academic year comes to an end, students and teachers are anticipating exam week, May 29 through June 1. This year, most students will take exams in each of their core classes, generally CEGS, mathematics, English/ESL, science, and a foreign language. In the end we want our students to have a positive experience with exams. We believe a thoughtful approach to exam preparation now will best serve students in the years to come – be they on the campus of WMA or the college or university they have their hearts set on. We appreciate the encouragement and support you give your children at this often-stressful time. Making Travel Arrangements For your convenience, an updated list of travel dates can be found online. Parents, please remember, if your son or daughter is a boarding student, you must give him/her permission to leave school for vacations, even if they are going home for the break. If they are not going home, please be specific about where they are going and with whom.
