March 2017
Dear WMA Alumni,
Students at Wilbraham & Monson Academy have exciting travel opportunities available to them each year that enhance their classroom studies and build their athletic camaraderie. For some of them, this is just the beginning of a lifetime of travel. During Spring Break, our students traveled to Florida, Cuba, Central Europe and England. Students were able to interact with alumni in each of these trips!
The Varsity Baseball team played preseason games in Historic Dodgertown at Vero Beach, Fla., and spent time with Dean Redfern '72, who catches a game or two each March.
While planning for the Cuba trip, students and parents were able to meet with and Skype with Arnelle Williams '13, who had been to the island nation for a semester abroad and again through a summer experience grant as a senior at Wesleyan University. Once in Cuba, the group met up with WMA Trustee Mark Shenkman '61M and his wife, Rosalind. Last year at this time, the Shenkmans were vacationing in Peru and met with the WMA group that had traveled there.
In Austria, the students were treated to a private tour of Parliament by Werner Fasslabend '64W, and the group in London met up with Nicholas Osario '08 and Jackie Yang '08, who are studying in London.
In June, groups of students will embark on trips to Iceland and Yunnan, China. Trips in previous years have taken students to the Amazon, Cambodia, China, England, France, Haiti, the Himalayas, Morocco, Namibia, Netherlands, Spain, Turkey, Chicago, Miami and Washington D.C.
Where will they run into you?
My best,
