The Global EcoLearn Project update

Ten students from this year’s Entrepreneurship and Marketing classes
celebrated the end of first phase of The Global EcoLearn Project™ by
attending the Affiliated Chambers of Commerce of Greater Springfield
annual Business Market Show. The day at the Mass Mutual Center started
with an early breakfast. Governor Deval Patrick, who sadly could not
attend because he was attending the funeral of a Navy Petty Officer
killed in Iraq, sent Secretary of Housing and Economic Development
Gregory Bialecki. The secretary told the gathering that he is starting
to see positive signs in the state's economy. More than 500 people
attended the event.
In addition to enjoying breakfast, the students staffed the WMA booth.
The students were asked to network and practice pitching their project.
In his final course evaluation, one student wrote about his personal
“greatest lesson learned” from working on the project. He liked the
experience of attending the Market Show because, “I believe it was a
good stepping stone for my career in business. It taught me how
important it is to establish a good relationship with the customers,
get your name out there to potential buyers, and market your product
well to the community.” Another young man responded to the query, “What
is your suggestion for future growth and/or development in the
project?” by asking for “attendance at more business expos. I think it
gave us a lot of exposure. I also think we need more notices in letters
sent home to parents and alumni.”
Baseball bats and cutting boards, made by local business partners, come officially marked with the WMA seal and are
certified made from quality maple harvested on the WMA campus in
January 2009.
