Nick Martinelli '13 wins bronze medal in boys' soccer at Bay State Games
Another year at the Bay State Games meant another year of hardware for Wilbraham & Monson Academy's Nick Martinelli '13.
Nick, who played every minute of every game, helped the West win a bronze medal last week in boys' soccer at the 2012 Bay State Games at Waltham High School. He assisted on the first goal in the bronze medal game, with the West beating Coastal 2-1 in double overtime.
After playing on the 2011 gold medal team, Nick had two goals and three assists from his outside midfielder position this year for the West.
“We went in with the same mentality: wanting to win,” said Nick, who was selected as a captain for the medal game. “It was still satisfying winning the bronze. We all played as hard as we could. It was a tough game. It went into double overtime, and we won in the second overtime with 30 seconds left.”
Nick was told by his Bay State Games coach, John O'Keefe, that the University of Massachusetts was in attendance to watch the WMA senior-to-be play.
The experience at the Bay State Games has Nick itching to get the prep season under way, where the Titans are in position to make a run at the postseason.
“Bay State Games got me in shape for the upcoming season,” he said. “It was hot out and I played every minute of every game. It was intense.
“I'm looking forward to the upcoming season, especially with Myles Cecchetelli coming from West Side. Our team should be pretty solid.”
