Baseball to play 6 games in Florida

Spring training in sunny Florida isn’t just for the professionals.

The Wilbraham & Monson Academy Baseball team will play six games in four days at the Vero Beach Sports Village in Florida March 12-15.

“I’m looking forward to the trip because I feel this will strengthen the students’ skills and give them the opportunity to enjoy the sport they love,” first-year WMA Coach Casey Brown said. “But we are about more than just winning and losing. This is an opportunity for the players to boost self-esteem, build friendships, develop respect, establish a strong work ethic, foster perseverance and increase confidence by learning about their own strengths and capabilities.”

The Titans will play five varsity games and one junior varsity contest. The trip will also include nine practice sessions.

P.J. Jasak ’14 will be making his third spring training trek to Florida with WMA, with the two previous March trips taking place at the Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando.

“We’re going to be in Vero Beach this year. We’ll get to play more baseball and play more games to get ready for the season,” said P.J., a catcher. “To get outdoor hitting, see live pitching and field ground balls off of hitters helps us get ready for the season. We’ll have some fun and get ready.”

WMA will play three games against teams from Canada, as well as single matchups vs. schools from Texas, New Hampshire and Connecticut.
