Baseball concludes Florida trip with big win

The Wilbraham & Monson Academy Baseball team wrapped up its six-game trip to Florida with a convincing 11-1 victory over Kimball Union Academy Friday under the lights at the Vero Beach Sports Complex.

The Titans went 2-3-1 for the tournament, and either led or were tied at the halfway point of every game.

Starting pitcher Alex Caldwell '14 gave WMA a big lift against Kimball. The left-hander, making his first start, had much better control than his first outing. He allowed one run in four innings.

The Titans were in control from the onset, with Shawn Boston '14 scoring on a throwing error and Kenny Goodnow '13 knocking in Scott Bicknell '14 with an RBI single as WMA grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

After Kimball scored a run in the top of the third, Kenny and Alex roped back-to-back doubles as WMA regained a two-run lead at 3-1. The Titans added two more runs when Brian Mascaro '14 and R.C. Goodman '15 came in on an outfield error with two outs, and P.J. Jasak '14 following with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fourth for a 6-1 lead.

After Kenny fired a 1-2-3 top of the fifth behind a glove-popping fastball, WMA took complete control with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Shawn lined a two-run double along the left field line, Kenny cracked a two-run double to right-center field, and the scoring concluded with a bases loaded walk to Aidan Barrett '13.
