Alex Corcoran '13 plays in international rugby matches in Bermuda

After playing in his first international rugby match outside of the United States last week, Wilbraham & Monson Academy's Alex Corcoran '13 is already looking forward to his next rugby competition out of the country – whenever or wherever that may be.

Alex competed in a tournament in Bermuda March 30-31 for the Boston Rugby Football Club. Boston played Bermuda's national U19 team.

"That was my first time playing rugby out of the country. It was awesome," said Alex, an honor roll student at WMA. "The weather was fantastic and everyone was nice. It was a great time and I'm definitely looking forward to going back to Bermuda or somewhere else for a rugby tournament."

Boston won both matches, taking the first 9-0 before winning the finale 9-3. Alex, who played predominantly the number eight position, said the hardest part of the trip was competing on consecutive days.

"I've never played back to back games," said Alex, who plans to play rugby at Northeastern University next season. "Two 80 minutes games in a row was tough. I played 65 minutes the first game and all 80 minutes the second game."

Alex, however, loved it. He said the bond among the players from both teams made all the bumps and bruises worth it.

"We played 80 minutes against each other two days in a row, trying to knock each other's heads off, and then we had a cookout after both games and hung out with the kids," Alex said. "The kids from Bermuda were friendly."
