Marcus Klebart '15 qualifies for two national track meets

Wilbraham & Monson Academy's Marcus Klebart '15 qualified for two national track meets while competing for the Central Connecticut Jaguars Track Club during the summer.

Marcus won district meets in the 400-meter hurdles at AAU and USA Track & Field venues. He then finished third at AAU and USATF regional events to earn a spot at the national competitions for both.

"It was great preparation for my junior year at Wilbraham & Monson and I'm looking forward to doing it again next year," Marcus said. "Maybe as I transition into college I'll be able to do it one more time. It was a lot of fun."

Marcus competed in six meets during the summer, running in the 100, 200, 400 and 4x400 relay, as well as the 400 hurdles. The extra competition helped him learn some of the ins and outs of racing at big meets.

"It's not like here, where you get called to run, you go and then you run. At these club meets you get called and sit there in the hot sun for an hour," Marcus explained. "It takes more preparation. You have to learn about yourself and what you can do, such as how much water you can drink and how much heat you can stand."

Marcus capped his spring track season at WMA by placing seventh at the NEPSTA Division III Track & Field Championship.
