Fulfilling Wilbraham & Monson Academy’s mission to develop global citizens and leaders. To prepare each student for the challenges of higher education and for success as a global citizen, we promote intellectual development, physical health, personal accountability, mutual respect and commitment to service.

We believe participation in a CIT program will help develop behavior traits that are useful in the future ... good communication, team building, goal setting and conflict resolution skills. We believe you can be that special leader who is able to build a sense of community and instill leadership, participation and cooperation in others.

All new Counselors leave with a certificate of completion, a skill evaluation report, a T-shirt and their leadership training notebook.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Monday, April 15: Applications are due.

Monday, April 22: Requests for interviews will be emailed. Interviews will be scheduled with Mr. Shea for the week of April 29.

Tuesday, May 14: Acceptance letters emailed.

Training

The NEW CIT program at WMA runs for six weeks concurrently with Beech Tree beginning June 24, 2019.

CIT candidates participate with the campers during Week 1 making observations and journaling about the experience. The Beech Tree Director is the CIT mentor and primary trainer. CIT gets progressively more inclusive each week. In Week 6, CIT candidates will receive CPR and First Aid training.

DAILY PROGRAM

8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Training Schedule

Week 1 - Welcome to our program orientation. First Aid and CPR classes and certification.

Week 2 - Enjoy Beech Tree adventures with your mentor counselor.

Week 3 - Continue to observe and learn (half day) in the Upper School workshops and begin focused training with your CIT Leadership Director (half day).

Week 4 - CIT on the job (half day) and in training (half day)

Week 5 - CIT Academic Activity Leader (half day) and CIT Reflection (half day)

Week 6 - CIT Leadership Training completed. Certificates will be issued by Mr. Shea at a CIT luncheon.
