Varsity Softball vs. The Gunnery
Event Type: Regular
Advantage:Home
Date: April 21, 2012
Result:Loss
Score:13-11
Event Recap:

On a field that resembled the dust bowl of the 1930s, the Titans were home for the first time this season, and the players and coaches were excited by the great turnout of fans.  In what looked like was going to be an easy victory for the Gunnery School turned out to be an exciting late game comeback for the Titans.  Unfortunately, in the end, Gunnery was able to squeak by with the victory.

Emma Kindblom '17 did well on the mound, allowing only three earned runs on 10 hits, six walks (two intentional) and three strikeouts.  She was able to keep the ball low in the strike zone, which produced a lot of Gunnery groundballs.  The Titan defense had a tough day handling the ball and committed too many errors, which allowed Gunnery to build a big lead of 10-3 going into the bottom of the sixth inning.

Co-captains Alyssa Natario '13 and Kelsey Gomes '13 started the late game rally in the bottom of the sixth inning that ultimately tied the game 10-10.  Alyssa hit a hard single to left field and Kelsey reached base when she was hit by a pitch.  Allie Cerpovicz '13 loaded the bases when she was hit by the next pitch.  Ariana Cassells '15 hit a hard single to left field that was tough for the Gunnery player to handle and scored the first two runs of the inning, Alyssa and Kelsey.  Cari Manghan '13 advanced the runners when she grounded out to second base on the next pitch.  Richelle Davis '12 loaded the bases when she was hit by a pitch.  Hannah Clewes '15 batted in Allie and advanced the runners when she hit a groundball to the shortstop who made an unsuccessful fielder's choice to second base.  The next batter, Emma, walked to score Ariana and keep the bases loaded.  Bailey Giese '15 batted in Richelle on a ground ball that she was able to beat out to first.  Alyssa came up again to hit a hard ground ball to the third baseman, who committed an error and both Hannah and Emma were able to score, which turned out to be the final runs of the inning.

Gunnery answered the Titan comeback by putting the ball in play and taking advantage of three errors and smart base running to score three runs.  Cari, Richelle and Hannah were able to load the bases for the Titans in the bottom of the seventh inning and manufacture a run with aggressive base running, but Gunnery's pitcher was able to settle down for the last two batters and strike them out.

Alyssa, Co-Captain, 2 for 4, one run scored, one RBI
Kelsey, Co-Captain, 1 for 2, one run scored, two HBP
Richelle, 1 for 2 ,  one BB, one run scored, one RBI

On Wednesday the Titans hit the road again to take on Northfield Mount Hermon.
