Winter Snow Policy 2008 - 2009

Following is a copy of the snow day policy as found on page 41 of the Student Parent Handbook. Although the Deans Office will continue to work with local television and radio stations to provide inclement weather announcements, it is becoming increasingly difficult to work within their text and character limits. Therefore, the most accurate and reliable school day information can be found on the Academy's Web site or as an e-mail in the WMANews folder on your child's FirstClass account. When we make a decision, which we try to do by 6:00 a.m. on a day that is questionable, we first post our decision in WMANews on FirstClass, where it is taken quickly by the Web Master and placed on the Web site. We will rely more and more on this form of communication in the coming months.
Snow Days
With a significant boarding population, we do not cancel school unless conditions are severe. It makes sense for us to continue with the academic day. However, at no time do we expect day students or their families to take risks. Day-student absences accompanied by a parent phone call on inclement days are excused, and work missed can be completed without consequence. Day students should get to school and sign in at the Deans Office as soon as conditions and family comfort allow.
If students cannot drive from campus to home due to bad weather, they should notify the Deans Office or the AOD. Arrangements can be made for them to sleep on campus.
Since Blake Middle School is entirely a day population, weather that causes concern may result in the cancellation of middle school classes when upper school classes are held as scheduled. For the most current information, look on FirstClass e-mail or the Web site, WMAcademy.org. You can also watch channels 3 (WSHM), 22 (WWLP), or 40 (WGGB) or listen to stations 100.9 (WRNX), 102.1 (Rock 102), or FM 93.1 (WHYN) for announcements.
