Ten WMA music
students traveled to Westfield State College on November 14 to join over 700
area high school musicians to audition for the Massachusetts Music Educators
Association (MMEA) Western District Festival. Our students have been working
diligently to prepare for these auditions, which included performing for two
adjudicators a required piece, scales, and sight reading. The top scoring
students will be invited to participate in the festival, and the students with
the very highest scores will also be invited to audition for the MMEA All State
Festival.

The following
students ably represented WMA at the auditions: violinists Chien-Hsiang Liao
’10, Naruhiko Sugiura ’11, HeeWon Yoon ’13, and Chi Zhang ’11; flautist Brooke
Mele ’11; Wooyoung Choi ’11 on alto sax; Chien-Hao Lin ’10 on tenor sax; Sea
Yoon Park ’11 on oboe; Chongxuan Qiu ’13 on jazz alto sax; and bass vocalist
Young-Jun Lee ’12.
