Every year, the Massachusetts Amateur Sports Foundation
sponsors the Bay State games to promote personnel development, education,
fitness, teamwork and sportsmanship through athletic competitions and
scholarships to the people of Massachusetts. In the past thirty years the Bay
State games have grown to include over 8000 athletes in 29 different sports
from more than 300 different Massachusetts towns. One of the most popular
summer sports is volleyball.

This summer Jeannette Viens
’11 was selected as a member of the Girls Scholastic West teams. 12 girls from
various public and private schools through the western corridor of the state
joined together to form the West team. After several weeks of intense
practices, the team traveled to Foxboro, Massachusetts, to play teams from five
other regions of the state. The team played each region in a 2 set preliminary
round. The West team went undefeated 10-0 and was seeded number 1 for the
playoff round. This granted them a bye for the quarter-final round. In the semi-finals the team defeated
Central, from the Worcester area, 2-0. In the final match, the West faced
Southeast and decisively defeated them 25-11 and 25-11, winning the gold medal.
Jeannette has been a member of the Titans Varsity Volleyball team since 8
th
grade and a two-year co-captain.
She has been selected as NEPSGFVA All-Star for the past two seasons. She
also plays volleyball for the Connecticut Husky Volleyball
