Admission Office has new home
Through the generosity of Mark Shenkman '61, Wilbraham & Monson Academy owns the property at 451 Main Street and will use the historic residence as the new Admission House.
“Mark Shenkman, alumnus of the Monson Class of 1961 and a major educational philanthropist, has made it possible for the Academy to have a dedicated space for the admission department,” said WMA Head of School Rodney LaBrecque. “Mark purchased the house and earmarked it for this use because he felt that the high quality of this perfectly restored New England gothic residence would match the quality of care and personal attention that applicants receive when visiting the Academy.”
The 1800s home includes seven offices, a large reception area for families interested in touring the campus, an inviting porch and parking for 12 vehicles. The WMA Admission staff for the Upper and Middle School works in the building, as well as the Director of Financial Aid.
“Our entire staff is thrilled to have such a welcoming place for families to begin the process of learning what WMA has to offer,” said Chris Sparks '95, Director of Admission.
Welcome to Wilbraham & Monson Academy!
With so many schools to explore, what makes Wilbraham & Monson Academy unique?
What sets WMA apart from other schools is our combination of community and academics. We are part small, local, nurturing school and part cutting-edge preparation for college and the world beyond. As the country’s 10th oldest boarding school, Wilbraham & Monson Academy has been educating global citizens and world leaders since 1804. Today, we educate young women and men from nearly 33 different countries. Our state-of-the-art Center for Entrepreneurial & Global Studies includes the only high school stock and bond trading center in the country, which includes a brand new (in Sept. 2012) Bloomberg monitor. Add to this more than 40 honors and AP classes, championship athletics, Fine & Performing Arts courses, student leadership opportunities, and a student/teacher ratio of 6:1, and you will see just how much WMA can offer!
We know that WMA changes the lives of our students every day – not just through academics: it’s the opportunities we offer, trips to the Amazon, visiting the Korean DMZ with a former ambassador, learning about financial markets on our model trading floor, and building relationships with faculty that you will cherish for a lifetime. Can a school change who you are, who you will become, and where you will go in life? When that school is WMA, the answer is "Yes!"
Your school search is not complete without a visit to our campus. We invite you to contact the Admission Office at 413.596.9107 to arrange a tour of our facilities.
