Alumni & Friends event planned for Aug. 15 at Cape Cod

Wilbraham & Monson Academy will hold its Alumni & Friends Cape Cod Reception at the home of Pete Amsden '56W Aug. 15 from 4-6 p.m.

This will be the second year in a row Pete (pictured on the right) has opened his home in West Dennis to the WMA community.

“It's no problem,” Pete said. “I get to see everybody and I don't have to drive anywhere. It's on the water and there's a lot of fresh air here. There's a nice view. It's a good place to have something.”

The 2011 event drew 25-30 people, including WMA Head of School Rodney LaBrecque.

“Looking out on Massachusetts Bay with the flags standing stiff in the breeze surrounded by loyal and interesting alumni . . . nothing could be better than an August alumni gathering on Cape Cod at Peter Amsden's home,” Rodney said.

Pete said he enjoyed seeing everyone last year, especially a former teacher, Roger Thurston.

“I happened to spend a summer session there between schools,” Pete explained. “Roger was a biology teacher so I've known him for a long, long time. It was nice to see him again.”

Pete's home is on the Bass River, where there's plenty of boat traffic and pretty scenery.

“I've been here since 1972 and still love it,” said Pete, 74, a retired podiatrist. “I came here with my wife, sat outside, and said we're buying it. I didn't need to go inside.”
