Sarah Goolishian '13 gets nod from NatGeo photog expert

As students from WMA began their travels this summer in the Amazon, another student, Sarah Goolishian ’13, was exploring Tanzania, a trip inspired by her trip to the Amazon last year. Sarah wanted another experience with remote cultures but a chance to focus on photography. She combed the Internet and when she found an opportunity to travel with the National Geographic for three weeks with four of their experts she jumped on it.

Sarah traveled to Tanzania to live alongside the Maasai Tribe. She found she could cross the language barrier by telling stories through her images and her portfolio speaks for itself. One of the National Geographic experts, Pete McBride, selected only 11 photos from 21 students to be displayed on his Facebook page; two of Sarah’s made the cut and one of them was chosen as the best shot of the three-week expedition.

The trip is certain to open doors for Sarah in the future as her photos have been submitted to National Geographic for review, a dream come true for Sarah who has been watching the channel since she was five years old. Sarah hopes to study sociology and anthropology after her senior year and continue to use her images to transcend barriers.
