R.C. Goodman '15 reaches baseball final of AAU National Tournament
For a baseball player who missed nearly all of his spring season with an eye injury, Wilbraham & Monson Academy's R.C. Goodman '15 is having one heck of a summer on the diamond.
R.C. and his Western Mass Storm summer baseball team reached the 14-and-under final of the AAU National Tournament in the City of Palms, Fla., July 24-29.
“It was really fun. Our guys played well,” R.C. said. “It was upsetting losing in the championship because we were all going for it, but it was a good experience for all of us.”
R.C. injured his right eye during batting practice after the first game of the WMA season in April. His eye has healed, however, all of the vision hasn't returned.
Despite the setback, at AAU Nationals, R.C. started all nine games for the Storm. He split time between left field and second base. His team went 7-2, beating teams from Boston and Ohio in the championship bracket before losing to a team from California in the final.
“I did alright,” R.C. said. “I think I could have done better but I helped as much as I could. I'm not myself yet, but with the injury I'm doing exceptionally well.
“I can't wait for next season to start.”
