Adri Chechile '26 sets long jump record

Wilbraham & Monson Academy’s Adrianna Chechile ’26 was hoping to set a track record in the spring season.

Even though she wasn’t feeling her best, Adri got that record … in the winter.

On her final attempt during her final meet of the season, Adri long jumped 16 feet, 11 3/4 inches, setting an Indoor Track school record.

“It is really exciting to set the school record in long jump because in my first years of practicing long jump I faced much hardship with fouling, not consistently hitting the board and hitting the board with a different foot each time,” Adri explained. “However, last season I tried to focus less on perfection and just enjoy the jump, and that is where I found my most success.

“Having not practiced long jumping much this season, and as it was my first meet doing it in indoor, it was really exciting to hit this (personal record) and I believe that it will set a really strong tone for my jumping in the spring.”

Adri topped the previous mark of 16-11, set by her sister, Arielle ’24, at a meet at Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire on Feb. 4.

Remarkably, Adri established the mark despite being sick.

“Warmups felt great with the team, but personally I felt sick,” said Adri, whose previous best long jump (indoor or outdoor) was 16-5. “However, it was my last meet of the season so I was very excited still going into the events.

“For long jump, I did not feel I had a chance because I had not long jumped once at a meet yet in the winter, and in the spring I had much more practice but was not hitting that distance. However, I have been training much more with my lifting, especially (plyometric exercises) and working on the mental aspect, envisioning the jump. While I was jumping I felt very hopeful and excited at the possibility of spring.”
