Boys Basketball motivated for tournament

Motivation? The Wilbraham & Monson Academy Boys Prep Basketball team has plenty of that headed into the postseason.

The #5 Titans will play at fourth-seeded Cushing Academy of Ashburnham, Massachusetts, in a New England Prep School Athletic Council AA Conference quarterfinal Wednesday, March 1, at 5 p.m.

The Titans finished the regular season 14-14 overall and 9-8 in AA, becoming eligible for tournament consideration with a come-from-behind win against MacDuffie School last week.

“I'm happy for the guys,” Coach Mike Mannix said. “It was an up-and-down season in terms of wins and losses. We never really got in a groove, but we did have stretches of games and weeks where we played well.”

The AA Conference is loaded, with Coach Mannix calling Cushing the “best #4 seed I've seen since 2020,” when WMA won the championship.

The Titans, who were upset in the semifinal round last season, lost by double digits to Cushing Feb. 15.

“We played Cushing and played poorly in that game that resulted in a loss in February,” Coach Mannix said. “I think we'll find some motivation in how the first game with them went.”
