Caterina Ravosa '26 hits 2,000-point milestone

Scoring 1,000 career points is a monumental feat for any high school basketball player.

Two thousand points is borderline unfathomable.

Wilbraham & Monson Academy’s Caterina Ravosa ’26 reached that rarest of rare numbers last week … as a junior.

Caterina hit career point 2,000 on Feb. 5 in a 62-59 loss at Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Massachusetts.

“Reaching 2,000 career points is a testament to Coach (Durelle) Brown and the culture he has created here at WMA,” explained Caterina. “With his guidance and the help of my teammates, I was able to achieve this milestone.

“In practice, my teammates push me every day to work harder and to get better so that I can reach my full potential and achieve all my goals. Without them and all my teammates throughout the last few years, this achievement would not be possible. Reaching 2,000 points is also a testament to all the sacrifice and work I have put into becoming the best version of myself both on and off the court.”

With 1,967 points headed into the matchup, Caterina pumped in a game-high 37, reaching the magic number on a spin move off the right block with a little less than five minutes remaining.

Coach Brown knew he had a program-changing player in “Cat” when she started at WMA as a seventh grader.

“This is a special, special achievement in the basketball world,” Coach Brown said. “Two thousand career points is an astronomical feat. You need a lot of things to swing your way: health, consistency, drive, skill. But most importantly, you need great teammates. Caterina has been consistent with her care and love of this program since seventh grade when she arrived. She has enjoyed playing on all of her teams (five including this season) as a Titan, learning valuable lessons along the way from each season. She also adores the players who have played before her in our program, her ‘big sisters,’ and she looks up to them with pride and admiration.”

Caterina became the program’s seventh 1,000-point scorer last year, attaining the feat in the first game of the season. Amazingly, she’s already played 108 games as a Titan.

“I think (the) biggest growth in my game is my increased maturity and confidence in what I do,” Caterina said. “I no longer try to force my game into something it's not, but instead play to my strengths no matter how ‘boring’ they are. I no longer look for the validation of write-ups and rankings, but instead play for myself, my team and my love of the game. I think that I used to struggle with this, especially in middle school, but my new mindset helps me to not only succeed, but to also be a positive influence to those around me.”

Caterina has certainly been a positive influence on the program, and then some, leading the Titans to the New England Prep School Athletic Council Class C title last season – the program’s first New England championship.

“My favorite part of being on the WMA Girls Basketball team is being a part of the family atmosphere and culture we have created,” Caterina praised. “On the court, I am pushed by my teammates to be the best version of myself and held to a high standard, but off the court we have so much fun together. I know I can go to my teammates and coaches about anything and as this season has gone on, we really have become a family.”

Only a handful of high school players from Western Massachusetts have reached the 2,000-point milestone, regardless of private or public school.

Caterina will be honored prior to WMA’s home game vs. Marianapolis on Feb. 12 at 4:30 p.m.
