Freddy Shubrick '27 sets school 100 record

Wilbraham & Monson Academy has a new fastest person in school history.

In a home meet on May 2, Freddy Shubrick ’27 set a school record in the 100-meter dash, running the race in 10.56 seconds.

“Setting the record was a great surprise,” said Freddy, who raced in lane three in the meet against Suffield Academy and Canterbury School. “I didn't even realize I had broken it until practice on Monday.”

Freddy topped the previous mark of 10.68, set by Craig Green ’16 in 2016.

“Going into the meet, the record wasn't on my mind at all,” explained Freddy, whose previous best was 10.87. “I was just focused on bouncing back after a bad leg in the 4x100 meter (relay) and making it up in the open 100. Right now, anything sub-11 (seconds), I'll be happy with. I’m more focused on taking first at championships in the 100 and 200.”

The New England Prep School Track Association Division III Championships will be held on May 16 at Marianapolis Prep School in Thompson, Connecticut, at 11 a.m.
