We want to remind you of Senior Night, our kick-off event for seniors and their families on Tuesday evening, Sept. 8 from 6:30-8 PM, which will be held in the Dance Room of the Athletic Center.
This occasion marks the formal beginning of our College Counseling program for the senior year, and we are thrilled to welcome our keynote speaker, Jacki Murphy. Jacki has served her alma mater, St. Michael’s College, with distinction as an admission officer for more than 39 years, and was the 2015 recipient of the New England Association for College Admission Counseling’s highest honor, the Harry Carroll Award. She earned a master’s degree in education from the University of Vermont as well as a Certificate of Advanced Management Study from St. Michael’s. A recognized leader in our profession, Jacki has had a long and distinguished career and we feel fortunate that she is able to share her experience and wisdom with our students and families.
Although we will have important information to share in order to get everyone off to a good start, we envision this as a celebration and an important opportunity to set a positive tone for the year ahead. To that end, we will be having a brief reception following our program to give us the chance to be together and to give you an opportunity to talk with Ms. Murphy and with us.
You may be aware that the all-school Springfield Public Forum event featuring Supreme Court Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor is being held on Wednesday, Sept. 9. We apologize that these two required evening commitments fall back-to-back on the calendar, but we scheduled our program before we knew which Public Forum event the WMA community would be sponsoring. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity for our students to learn from a sitting Supreme Court Justice, and a wonderful way for all of us to begin the school year.
We encourage you to accompany your senior and join us for our kick-off College Counseling event. We appreciate your ongoing interest and support and we look forward to working with you and your child during this exciting time in their lives.
