Dance at WMA

Dance is available to students of all abilities during the fall, winter and spring semesters. Students engage a diverse curriculum that includes but is not limited to ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, modern, contemporary and lyrical genres of dance. Through consistent practice and training, dancers will learn to build their improvisation skills, body awareness, musicality and coordination. Most importantly, dancers will build community and creative expression with others through dance.

Toward the end of each term, the dance team puts on a public performance at the WMA’s Founders Theatre, showcasing a variety of dance numbers to a live audience. At the discretion and support of the Dance Director, students have the opportunity to opt into genres of their choice for the term shows. Students do not have the opportunity to opt into select genres for weekly practices and general training.

The team carries eight to 16 dancers each trimester and rehearses Monday to Friday weekly for 90 minutes in the WMA Athletic Center Dance Room.

The dance program has been the highlight of my time spent at WMA, and I have grown as a person and a dancer. The people I’ve met through WMA dance are now my lifelong friends, and I will cherish the memories and friendships made through dance.
