Adri Chechile '26 sets 2 school records

It was a busy eight days for Wilbraham & Monson Academy’s Adrianna Chechile ’26.

It was also a very successful eight days.

After committing to attend and run track & field at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts, Adri set two school records in back-to-back meets last week.

In a meet at Williston Northampton School on April 29, Adri not only bettered her previous best in the long jump by more than a foot, she crushed the school record, soaring 17 feet, 9.5 inches. The old mark was 17-1, established by Sydney Caro ’20 in 2019.

“It was such an exciting moment,” explained Adri, whose previous best was 16-4.5. “I was hoping that I would have a PR that day because there was really good competition and the track was great. However, I was not expected to PR by that much. I changed some things up before I jumped. I went from my old mark, and I was visualizing my jump beforehand so I was so happy that these changes helped.”

Three days later, Adri set a standard in the 400-meter run, covering the lap around the track in 57.56 seconds in a home meet vs. Suffield Academy and Canterbury School. Adri topped the mark of 58.28, established by Abby Dorunda ’24 two years ago.

“I have been working at the 400 for a long time,” Adri said. “Since freshman year and last year at champs when I ran a 59.24, my main goal that day was to break 59. Because I did not, I knew that I really wanted to break that this season. I started with mid-59s this year. However, when I broke 59 I was so excited.

“However, it feels like I now broke through a ‘wall’ in the 400 and on Saturday I came out much stronger on the first straight away, and when I hit the (300-meter mark) I realized I still had more energy to push, so I was so happy to then break 58.”
