Wilbraham & Monson Academy Riflery Coach Bill Passy will need something bigger than a minivan for the league’s postseason awards banquet this year.

That’s good news.

The Titans landed eight shooters on the 2022 Connecticut State Rifle and Revolver Association High School All-State Team.

The five-time state champions garnered more than half of the spots (6 of 10) on the First Team: Jake Girhiny '22, Steven Holik ’22, Wooseung Oh '22, Askar Bakirdinov '24, Matthew Clark '24 and Leopold Heiss '24.  

Two shooters earned selections to the Second Team: Samuel Jasmin '22 and Guo Yin '23.   

The league banquet will be held on May 19 in Orange, Connecticut.

Wooseung Oh – “Despite Colin missing last year due to remote learning, he finished his WMA career in style. He posted consistent scores all season and led the team to another championship. Colin leaves big shoes to fill for next year’s team.”

Matthew Clark – “The second of three ‘super sophomores,’ Matt shot an incredible score of 191 (out of 200) in his very first competition. He’s a quick learner and would not make the same mistake twice. He is the first traditional athlete to have success with the program.”

Askar Bakirdinov – “Along with Heiss and Clark, he shot a 189 in our championship match. When on the range, he is all business. He’s a quiet kid who has developed his shooting skills, but still has a lot more to give the program.”

Samuel Jasmin – This is his second All-State selection after last year's break-out season. He provided important depth for the team and much needed comic relief. His ‘Samisms’ kept the team loose. He also made a key late-season equipment switch to accommodate a teammate.”

Guo Yin – “Gawain was also coming off a remote learning year and made the most of his return to the team. He had several key performances during the season and will be leaned on next year for leadership.”
