Feb. 19 - 24

GIRLS

Seoyeon Bae ’28
Indoor Track

Soy had a great final week of the season. Her commendable dedication to the sport has resulted in noticeable growth as our season progressed.  On Feb. 19, she attended the optional, highly competitive Armory Youth Championship meet in New York City, where she excelled in her performance in the 400-meter race. Soy's pursuit toward her self-improvement is impressive and the tangible results have been demonstrated on numerous occasions. Her contributions to the team have only positive impacts, and we look forward to witnessing her continued growth.

Abby Dorunda ’24
Basketball

Abigail experienced a tremendous last week of the regular season. She is closing in on the end of her career, and has it been a special one. Strong, determined, full of boundless energy, speed, talent and attitude, Abigail has made her impact in every game she's played, becoming our "game changer" when she enters. As the cliche goes, what Abigail gives us, cannot be found on the typical stat sheet necessarily - points, rebounds, assists - but her stats can be found in the columns that affect winning -- deflections, steals, tips, blocks, and utter disruption. Abigail is a truly selfless teammate, who is so coachable and dedicated to her teammates, her coaches and our program.

BOYS

Ryan Keating ’24
Varsity Basketball

Ryan experienced a great week for the team. This season, Ryan has been one of our more consistent players. While not the highest scoring player, Ryan can always be counted on to get us a handful of points in a game and tends to be a consistent player on defense. Ryan has adapted his play style drastically this year, becoming more than just a 3-point shooter. Because of this, Ryan had a great ending to his final basketball season at WMA, averaging 10 points per game, helping to lead us to a 2-1 record in our last week.

David Silva ’27
Riflery

David experienced a great week for the Riflery team. His hard work is starting to pay dividends on the range. In the team's last match of the regular season, David shot a career-best score of 176, including a perfect score of 50 in the sitting position. David is always the first one at practice and is willing to help out any way he can.

January 2024

Girls

Marisa Cyboron ’24

Riflery

Marisa had a great January and a great start to her senior season. She was the team’s top scorer in two of the first three matches. This was highlighted by a career best score of 195 (out of 200) in a home match versus Suffield Academy. She also led the team with a 191 in a win over Xavier High School. She also posted the fifth best score of 65 competitors in the King Phillip Match.  Marisa's efforts to help the younger team members make her a valuable asset to the team.

Caterina Ravosa ’26

Basketball

In a month that saw our team get off to a slow start (2-3), but bounce back and finish on a five-game winning streak, we saw lots of great contributions from our players. Caterina had maybe the best month of her care. Caterina has made her most significant strides in the effort category. Caterina averaged a double-double with 16.2 points and 10.9 rebounds. She has increased her field goal percentage to 48 percent. She is taking better shots, not forcing them and concentrating on making the initial shot. All of this, along with just playing harder, and giving us better effort on the defensive end, has helped show growth and progress in Caterina's game.

Owen had an impressive month on the wrestling mat. As a captain, Owen leads by example during practices through his work ethic and dedication to the sport.  During competitions, Owen went 13-5 and took sixth place at a tournament in January. These are impressive results and have had a positive impact on our team and on Owen's New England ranking. Owen qualified for New Englands and he was seeded eighth overall at 157 pounds.

Luke Haynes ’24

Hockey

Luke experienced a tremendous month for the hockey team. In all 11 January games, Luke has been a leader for us both on and off the ice all season. His work ethic embodies what it means to be an athlete at WMA. Luke scored goals in three consecutive games. The coaching staff is lucky to have a player like Luke as our captain.
