Program Overview

There is a long-standing tradition in wrestling at Wilbraham & Monson Academy, which focuses upon building the complete person both mentally and physically. This tradition carried over to the merge in 1971, when Wilbraham Academy and Monson Academy merged. Prior to 1971, Wilbraham Academy held a solid position in the Class "A" League, which continues today. The Class "A" League is the "best of the best" in New England. It is our mission, as a small school, to continue to respect our history while striving to compete with the larger schools of New England. The WMA wrestling program has successfully produced many Class A Champions over the years and several “All Americans” at the national level.

Not only is there a steadfast commitment honoring of our history as champion athletes, there is also a driving focus upon building our future as an institution. In the WMA wrestling program, our goal is not simply to win contests, but to teach student athletes to acquire the tools that will foster success beyond the mat. We do this by building competitive spirit and moral character. The foundation for this is academic; all wrestlers come to realize that academic excellence and athletic competitiveness are interwoven to build strong character in mind and body. Our philosophy is to build strength in the ‘whole’ student through hard work and commitment.

It is our policy that, as a small school with an athletic requirement, everyone is afforded the opportunity to be a part of the Wrestling Team. To that end, we do not "cut" from our program for any reason. If you are willing to make the commitment, our program will help you set attainable goals, train you at a high level, and assist you in every way we can to assure you attain success.
