BPA - Publications

The homepage of your publication includes the Issue in the top left corner next to the + sign and a description of the issue below the hero slideshow. These areas are populated from the Issues within the Publications modules.

To update these fields:

1. Go to the Posts Module
2. Select the Publications menu
3. Select an Issue
4. Add the Issue (Fall 2019) to the Subtitle field
5. Add the Issue description to the Description field

The publications landing page includes a hero slideshow at the top and a grid of images below. These fields are created from the posts added to each issue. 

To update the slideshow

The purpose of the slideshow is to highlight top stories from the selected issue of the publication. Tags are used to specify which articles are displayed in this space. We recommend using a tag such as, Top Story, for each post that is displayed in this space.

For each post, the thumbnail image, title and read more link are displayed. When either the title or read more link are selected, the post will open the post in the Posts Detail page for your publication. This is a child of this publications page and is hidden from navigation. 

To get started, create a post and include the Top Story (or similar) tag

1. Go to the posts module and select the folder for your publication
2. Select the desired board 
3. Add a post and include the tag
4. Save

Next, set the element on the publications page so that it's filtered on the proper boards and tags

1. Go to the Publications 2 page
2. Click the Settings for the Resource element at the top of the page
3. Click +Content Filters
4. Select all the boards included in the publications folder
5. Click Specific Tags and then choose Top Stories
6. Save

Update the grid of articles

The article grid displays articles from the selected issue. When the title is clicked, the full article is set to open on the hidden posts page. From the

1. Go to the Publications 2 page and scroll to the bottom until the article grid come into view.
2. Select the gear for this post element
3. Click +Filter
4. Selected all the boards associated with your publication
5. Save

The topic pages allow you to display articles that fall into specific categories. By default, these may be named: Lower School, Middle School, Upper School, etc. In the top banner of the publication, click the + arrow in the top right corner to see the list of topics. In your list of site pages, these are child pages of your Publications 2 page.

Each of the Topic pages, includes a grid of articles that are filtered to display articles that correspond to a specific topic

Set up the topic list in the banner

1. Decide upon the topics you plan to use in your publication.
2. Update the page names of the topic pages via the page settings gear at the bottom right corner of the page Be sure to update the slug of the URL as well as the page name
3. Save and Publish the page.

Click the + arrow in the publications banner to make sure your new topics are showing.

Tag the topics in the issue articles

The tags that are created should correspond to the categories you've selected. If there is a, "lower school" topic page, there should be a corresponding, "lower school" tag.

1. Create Tags for each topic
2. Add the the proper tag (s) to each article
3. Save

Set the post element on the topic page

1. Click on a topic page (Lower School for example)
2. Open the settings for the post element that displays the grid of articles
3. Click +Filter
4. Select all of the boards with articles you wish to include
5. Click, "Specific Tags" and select the tag that corresponds with the topic
6. Save and publish your page.

• When new Volumes or Issues are created, be sure to complete the appropriate fields within the post module so that the banners of your publication populate properly.
• When new boards are created, be sure to update the post settings on the landing and child pages within the publication to be sure these boards are included in the filter. Once you have set up your publication to include the specific boards in an issue, new posts will be dynamically added.
