Parents' Association News

"Clash of the Titans" was a great success. I wish to extend my gratitude to everyone who helped make this night so much fun! Our celebrity chefs cooked their hearts out and in the end Chef Joe Salvador walked away with the trophy. A great big thank you goes to Chef Bicknell and his staff who did an outstanding job. And my deepest thanks go to the dedicated committee members who made this event happen. All of their hard work showed and a good time was had by all who attended. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Parents' Association Relay For Life Team

The Parents' Association is sponsoring two Relay For Life teams to allow up to 20 parents a place at the Relay. It doesn’t matter which team you join, we’re all working together. As of now, one team is complete, but there are still a few open places on the second team. Since your child will be there, why not be a part of the celebration and support him/her with special snacks, extra clothes, and moral support. It’s also a great chance to socialize in a fun atmosphere with other great upper and middle school parents.  Join us today!

Relay For Life of Wilbraham at Wilbraham & Monson Academy

Summer Camps

The Wilbraham & Monson Academy Summer Session provides a fun, active, and comprehensive learning program for students entering grades 6 through 9. Students will be enrolled in English classes focusing on the four essential elements of language learning - reading, writing, listening, and speaking - to improve English proficiency in order to achieve academic success at secondary schools where English is the classroom language. Link to  details & registration

Camp $tart-Up

Camp $tart-Up rocked WMA last year. This summer, they're returning (July 29-August 7), and they're registering both day and boarding campers now. Over the course of 10 days, teens (14-18) meet inspiring entrepreneurs and go behind the scenes at great companies in our backyard, all the while using their skills to create a mock company, write a business plan, and build a stock portfolio at the Shenkman Trading Center. Beyond learning, campers meet incredible new friends from around the world. You may remember, last November the camp's founder, author Joline Godfrey, spoke on campus about how parents can raise kids that are financially prepared for the 21st century. Find out more about Camp Start-Up on their website.

Beech Tree Summer Camp
Beech Tree Summer Camp is pleased to begin its 16th season under the leadership of newly appointed director, Mr. Mike Mannix. More information and application and health forms for Beech Tree 2011 are now available online

Now is the time to get involved and form a team, volunteer your services, donate online or in person. Because Relay is a school-wide community service project, all WMA students, faculty, and staff are involved in one way or another. You can be, too.

For more information on how you can play a part in Relay this year, contact Jackie Smith '11. A description of the various volunteer opportunities is available here. Find out more, join a team, or donate to Relay on the American Cancer Society Web site.

Class of 2011 Trip - May 16

Every year, the graduating class participates in an off-campus excursion with the intent to foster class unity and bonding. More importantly, this trip will create a common experience that students can reflect on during this celebratory, but sometimes challenging, last year of high school. The senior trip is focused on bringing the class to an area where there is a variety of educational, cultural, and entertaining activities for students to enjoy.

This year’s destination is Boston on Monday, May 16, and includes various Boston cultural opportunities, shopping time, and dinner as a group at the Fire and Ice Restaurant. Students will be supervised by an adult in a small group at all times. Departure time is approximately 9:00 a.m. from WMA, and we expect to arrive back on campus around 8:30 p.m.

Many thanks for your time. Like you, we’re hopeful that the Class of 2011 will have a successful, fun trip. If you have any questions about the trip, please contact Class Advisors Rose Power (rpower@WMA.us) or Kate Gaw (kgaw@WMA.us).

Please sign and fax the Parent/Guardian permission form to 413.596.4108 ATTN: Dean’s Office or email a scanned PDF file to Student Activities Director Tiffany Norman (tnorman@WMA.us). Thank you!!
