Casey Fund Event

Francis Michael Casey Fund for the Fine & Performing Arts

In 1994, Arthur H. Zalkan and his wife Barbara F. Zalkan (who passed away in in 2000) and children Brett '83, Marilyn '84 and Ira '89 created the Francis Michael Casey Fund. They established the fund to honor the former headmaster for his devotion to and support of the fine and performing arts, and as a way of expressing gratitude to Mr. Casey and the Academy for the educational experience the school provided. Among other purposes, they intend the fund to support annual performances for the enjoyment of the Academy and the larger community. We are grateful to the Zalkan family for its continued loyalty to Wilbraham & Monson Academy, and for establishing this fund during Mr. Casey's lifetime so that he could enjoy its benefits.

On April 9, 2006, Mr. Casey passed away at the age of 80, and this concert is a testimony to the many lives that he helped shape during his tenure at WMA. At the Academy, the taught English before serving as headmaster, a position he held for 14 years. He was an untiring advocate for the Academy, a skilled administrator and a teacher whose students were often taken by the breadth of his knowledge, and who delighted when he drew from his thespian skills for emphasis or to delight and engage them. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his former students, at the Academy he served so selflessly, and through Francis Michael Casey Fund for The Fine & Performing Arts performances that bring the entire community together.
