Mountain Biking Program

Introducing the Middle School Mountain Biking Program (MSMBP), which began during Spring 2021!

Mountain biking in the Middle School is a coed program for all levels of rider. It meets every day after school for 60 to 90 minutes and will include an occasional Saturday ride led by guest riders from our community.

Being our pilot year, the bike and safety gear will need to be provided by the rider - a trail-worthy bike, helmet, safety glasses and riding gloves.

Students who do not have a bike will not be excluded from riding, but we will need to find alternative options for them. It is our hope that with increased popularity and generous support, MSMBP can eventually provide a stable of bikes so that all students have an opportunity to participate.

The purpose of MSMBP, besides having a ton of outdoor fun, is to teach the three skill sets we call Ride, Rake and Wrench

  • Ride: A process-driven riding curriculum for all levels, with a focus on technique, safety, confidence and fitness.
  • Rake: Maintaining and improving our trail system while minimizing our ecological footprint.
  • Wrench: Learning about and engaging in the basics of bike maintenance and equipment safety.

Right here! Over the past 24 months, members of our community and generous friends of the Academy have developed 4.5 miles of new trail on campus while also developing access to over 15 miles of trail on land contiguous to our campus -- this means a wide selection of trails for riders of all ability levels.

Simply send a note to Mr. Whitcomb if you are interested in joining the MSMBP.

As noted, riders will need to provide their own bike and equipment.  If a bike is needed please contact Mr. Whitcomb.
