Payton Klepacki '22 signs NLI to St. Bonaventure for lacrosse

It’s amazing how grit can change a person’s life.

Wilbraham & Monson Academy’s Payton Klepacki ’22 has plenty of grit.

Despite two major knee surgeries in the last three years, Payton signed her National Letter of Intent to play women’s lacrosse at St. Bonaventure University Nov. 10 at a ceremony in the Athletic Center.

Payton, a goal-scoring midfielder with excellent speed, had ACL surgery on her right knee during her sophomore year before tearing her left ACL last season.

St. Bonaventure, of Olean, N.Y., plays Division I lacrosse in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

Payton on her signing day: “It’s been long awaited. I was nervous at first, but now I’m happy that I’m officially a signed collegiate athlete.”

Payton on why she chose St. Bonaventure: “It was a school where I will be able to get a good education and they have a major I want. I’ll get to play Division I lacrosse, which is a big part of it. Also, when I was on campus it felt like a family before I even met that many people. I felt at home when I was on my visit there.”

Payton on how WMA helped her: “WMA set me up for college academically as well as athletically, such as teachers supporting me when I had to miss some school and making sure I was on top of my work. WMA has been a welcoming place to go to school.”

Coach Christa Robinson on what Payton brings to the WMA program: “Payton has incredible determination and resilience. She literally is all over the field. I’m hoping she’ll be back this year after her second ACL tear last year during the season. She has great grit and determination.”
