First-year Coach Jes Rohan, one of the elite players in the history of Western Massachusetts girls' basketball, made an immediate impact on the Titans' program for the 2011-12 season. WMA qualified for the New England Prep School Athletic Council Class C tournament for the first time in years following its turn-around season, which included a 10-game winning streak. The Titans also won the Stoneleigh Burnham School Holiday Tournament.
WMA prides itself on preparing students for college, and Hambley is doing the same with the student-athletes on the basketball team. Rohan's "Never give up; Never let up" philosophy proves valuable on the court and off.
Wilbraham & Monson Academy has a long tradition in basketball. The Smith Hall Gymnasium, built on the Wesleyan Academy campus in Wilbraham in 1896, was the first indoor court built to the specifications of Dr. James Naismith, the inventor of basketball. Even then, Wesleyan Academy had both boys’ and girls’ basketball teams.
