On a beautiful Friday May afternoon, the Titans took on league foe Lincoln-Sudbury High School before an Alumni Weekend crowd.
The Titans jumped out to a quick lead after fullback Buun Tengamnuay '12 counter-attacked off a long kick from Lincoln-Sudbury with support from Ryan McLarney '12, HS Jung '12 and Shacor Privott '14, who finally touched down between the posts. HS converted and the Titans were up 7-0 in the first three minutes of the match.
The Titans scored an opportunistic try off of a Lincoln-Sudbury mistake in a ruck --prop Desmond Gray '12 scored of a a penalty play (HS converted) to put the Titans ahead 14-0. Lincoln-Sudbury, however, answered with a quick try but failed to convert.
The Titans, though, responded with a flurry of tries: Jack Xie '14 charged down a kick in front of the Lincoln-Sudbury goal line and flanker Jack Viens '13 got to it first and touched down in goal; scrumhalf Takaaki Kagami '13 went weakside from a ruck and set up winger Nuno Van Dunem '13 to score in the corner; and finally, Des picked up out of a scrum and went weakside for about 30 yards before setting up Nuno for his second try of the match. The half ended with WMA ahead 36-5.
A number of freshman were able to get some varsity experience in the second half, including scrumhalf Miles Nallen '15 and prop Brian Kennedy '15. The second half started with Shacor scoring off a long run to make it 41-5. Lincoln-Sudbury, to its credit, played hard to the end and scored the final try of the match to make the final score 41-10.
Freshman lock Ben Soder '15 was dominant in the lineouts the entire match but the man of the match goes to Ryan, who made great decisions all afternoon at his flyhalf position, displayed great tactical kicking and saved at least one try with some sterling defensive work at the goal line.
In the second match, playing "tens", the Titan B side beat the Lincoln-Sudbury Bs 10-7 with tries scored by lock Eric Han '13 and winger Vincent Zheng '14.
