Darkroom to Lightroom

To prepare each student for the challenges of higher education and for success as a global citizen, we promote intellectual development, physical health, personal accountability, mutual respect and commitment to service.
This is a two-week session workshop
July 1 - 5 and July 8 - 12
- Earn one WMA Visual Arts Credit for this program.
- A $100 materials fee will be paid at registration.
- Students should bring a DSLR camera if they have one. Rentals are available for $60/week.
Darkroom to Lightroom offers a unique experience of old and new technology that covers 150 years of innovation and creativity. A photographic intensive program that leads the student to understand optical science – and crossover of art and science. A teaching assistant will be available during the day so students may work on their field assignments.
Students learn the fundamentals of old-school darkroom photography, which we then apply to the latest digital media to create interesting and creative imagery for web-based galleries. Focus will be on finding creative voice in exciting and diverse environments.
Students will learn:
- Fundamentals of darkroom photography
- Adobe Lightroom
- Adobe Photoshop
- Control of Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera
All student-photographers leave with a portfolio of work, a simple camera, which they design and make, tools to continue exploring, a T-shirt, and a certificate of participation.
